The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) BHU successfully organised the prestigious India Skills Track-2 competition in the Department of Chemistry on Thursday, under the ‘Chemical Laboratory Technology’ skill category, in collaboration with the Life Sciences Sector Skill Development Council (LSSSDC), New Delhi.
The event was conducted under the guidance of Professor Abha Mishra, Associate Dean (Research & Development) of IIT (BHU). Her meticulous planning and effective leadership significantly contributed to the success of this national-level skill development programme and further strengthened the institute’s credibility as a strong partner.

The inaugural ceremony was attended by Dean (Research & Development) Prof Rajesh Kumar, Head of the Department of Chemistry Prof Sundaram Singh, Associate Dean (Academic Affairs) Prof Indrajit Sinha, and Prof Samya Banerjee.
Prof Abha Mishra stated that LSSSDC, a designated awarding body under the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Government of India, had selected IIT (BHU), Varanasi, as a partner institution for organising this national competition under the India Skills 2025 and World Skills 2026 framework. This partnership is a significant step towards strengthening the ‘Skill India’ mission and underscores the role of prestigious academic institutions in national skill development initiatives.
She added that India Skills is a premier platform for identifying, nurturing, and encouraging the talent of the country’s youth, where participants are selected through rigorous skill-based assessments. The chemical laboratory technology skill is crucial in modern scientific and industrial sectors, encompassing laboratory operations, safety protocols, analytical techniques, and high-precision experiments. During the competition, participants’ real-time practical skills, professional discipline, and technical proficiency were evaluated, establishing a strong bridge between academic knowledge and industrial requirements.
The participants were selected in two phases. Track-1 (online national-level MCQ examination) saw the participation of 2,391 students from across the country, reflecting the growing popularity and credibility of the India Skills platform. Candidates selected based on merit participated in Track-2 (practical assessment phase), which was held at IIT (BHU), Varanasi.
During the Track-2 competition, the participants demonstrated exceptional dedication and professionalism. The high-quality scientific environment provided by IIT (BHU) fostered confidence and fairness throughout the event. Following the evaluation, three outstanding participants were selected to represent India at the international level. This achievement is a source of pride for the entire nation.
